Orange Shirt Day began in 2013 as an Indigenous-lef initiative inspired by residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad whose new orange shirt was taken from her on her first day at St. Joseph Mission Residential School. Worn annually on September 30, the day serves to commemorate the children who died in residential schools and to raise awareness about the intergenerational trauma they caused.
Shirts will arrive the week before September 30th and will be ready to pick up at the Main Campus. Proceeds from shirts sold will be donated to the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre in Halifax.
